[EN] The Wildflower Union is Jake Braunecker: musician, activist, whistler, rambler, story-teller, free spirit. While Jake has made Saint-Etienne, France, his second home, he is originally from Bloomington (IN), USA. It is here that he first started playing as a street musician, earning a living from busking. He has also been involved in non-profit artist collectives with an aim to democratise different forms of art.

Always singing or plucking away at the guitar, music follows Jake wherever he goes. His laidback, twenty-first century style folk is completely his own, although he has cited The Avett Brothers, Bright Eyes and Woodie Guthrie as songwriters that inspire him. His own songwriting is straightforward and conversational and his recordings are completely DIY and stripped down, breaking down the barrier between artist and listener. Similarly, Jake encourages interaction with his street audiences – the dynamic of which is completely different to a standard on-stage set-up.

Jake’s casual, big-hearted persona has already won over many new fans in France. But mostly, the passers-by who stop and listen to him play must undoubtedly ask themselves how on earth it is possible to be treated to such a generous, authentic performance – on a street corner, on an ordinary day…

[FR] Wildflower Union, c’est Jake Braunecker : musicien, militant, siffleur, nomade, conteur, libre penseur. Si Jake a fait de Saint-Étienne sa seconde maison, il est originaire de Bloomington, dans l’Indiana, USA. C’est là qu’il a commencé à jouer dans la rue, et par la même occasion à gagner sa vie. Il est également engagé au sein d’un collectif d’artiste à but non lucratif, visant à démocratiser différentes formes d’art.

Toujours à chanter ou à gratter sa guitare, la musique suit Jake partout. Son style bien à lui de folk peinarde est inspiré entre autre par The Avett Brothers, Bright Eyes ou Woodie Guthrie et leur talent d’auteur. L’écriture de Jake est directe et familière, ses enregistrements sont faits maison et épurés, ce qui brise la barrière entre l’artiste et le public. D’ailleurs, Jake encourage l’interaction avec son public dans la rue, et crée une dynamique complètement différente de celle qu’on peut trouver avec un artiste sur scène.

Son personnage décontracté au grand cœur a déjà retenu l’attention de nombreux fans en France, mais particulièrement celle des passants. Ceux qui s’arrêtent et l’écoutent jouer, se demandent sans aucun doute comment il est possible de profiter d’une performance si authentique et généreuse, juste au coin d’une rue …
